On the 14th of September 2024, Kuen Cheng Western Calligraphy Society held an
excursion to Jadi Batek Gallery and the National Art Gallery from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Being the first excursion since the Covid-19 pandemic, the event was highly

anticipated by the members. Before departing, officially set at 8:30 a.m. sharp, all
members were given some snacks prepared by the organising committee.

The first stop of the day was Jadi Batek Gallery, where the members had hands-on

experience of batik painting. After a brief introduction by the instructor, the members
handpicked their favourite designs and immersed themselves in batik painting.
According to the instructor, darker colours are usually added first before adding
lighter colours to create a natural gradient. After around an hour, the initially blank

designs outlined with wax transformed into lively art pieces.

After a hearty lunch at McDonald’s, the members carried on the day to the National
Art Gallery at around 1 p.m. The members took a plunge into the vibrant world of

Malaysian art scene, where they relived the artists’ echoing stories through each
articulating artwork. From traditional acrylic on wood to contemporary mixed media
art pieces, the National Art Gallery is itself a testament that art knows no bounds.

As the final group photo was taken with members grinning from ear-to-ear, the
fulfilling day officially concluded. The bus returned to the school at 3 p.m. sharp, and
the members bid each other goodbye with renewed perspectives and outlooks towards
             the arts.
