Stepping into the AI
Generation
reported by Sr1ScE New Zhi Xuan
On March 30th, 2024, Ir. Dr. Chang
Yoong Choon, Associate Professor and Head
of the Department of Electrical and
Electronic Engineering at Universiti Tunku
Abdul Rahman (UTAR), spoke to Senior
One students about the “AI Generation."
Dr. Chang explains AI as machine
intelligence mimicking human abilities,
learning from data to enhance performance,
increasing productivity, fostering creativity,
and creating digital job opportunities.
AI, including machine learning, natural
language processing, computer vision, and
deep learning, works differently. Nonetheless,
data scarcity and potential biases in data can
hinder AI development, leading to inaccurate
decisions and difficulty in understanding
decision-making processes, making them
difficult to trust.
Thus, Dr. Chang suggests that developing
foundational skills, critical thinking, and
problem-solving skills is essential for all
learners at their respective educational
institutions. To sum up, he mentions that it is
vital that students learn endlessly.
