                      ——2023 Class Choir Competition

After several months of tireless preparations and rehearsals since the preliminary round,
the selected finalist classes gathered once more in the battle for the final victory during the
annual Class Choir Competition, which was held in the school hall on the 22nd of July 2023.
The judges for this competition are the school’s music teachers, Ms. Hee Siaw Fuey, Ms.
Wong Sheau Hui, Ms. How Xiang Yun, Ms. Lee Wei En, and a special guest, Ms. Rachel Tan.

For the juniors, it’s the first time they’ve participated in a physical class choir
competition in Kuen Cheng High School, and it’s a hard fight during the preliminary round.
Five outstanding classes were chosen out of 56 junior classes. They are Jr1Z(3), Jr2Z(2),
Jr2Z(5), Jr3Z(6), and Jr3S(5). Most of them chose mashup songs, which was a surprise when
the change between the songs happened. They even added a sparkle of creativity with dancing,
body percussion, and even a screaming chicken toy as the conductor’s baton. The chemistry
between the visual and auditory effects was astonishing.

              For the senior classes (Sr1ScA, Sr2ComA, Sr2ComB, Sr2A, Sr3ScB), it was a beautiful
sight to see the visual effects of the performances, which included some drama relating to
the background of the song itself. Sr2ComA handmade a cardboard rocket to portray the

phenomenon of growing up and going out into the world on our own, which paired with the
song ‘You Raise Me Up’. Another touching story portrayed by Sr2A with the song ‘This Is
Me’, by telling a story where a girl faced multiple negative remarks on her looks but she
eventually overcame them and learned to accept herself as an individual.
