On the 2nd of September, the Malaysian National Schools British Parliamentary
Debate Competition of 2023 was held. Kuen Cheng High School Debate Club sent six
promising candidates to compete in the event, and one as a trainee adjudicator. They were
Foo Xin Yu, Ernie Chong Qing Tong, Tan Hong Zher, Ho Jin Xian, Phang Kor Yee, and
       Brendan Lok.

They all gathered at Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus before 8:30 a.m. with their
coach and a teacher of the club. The students were briefed on the rules and regulations of
the competition, then the first motion of the day was released, and off they went to debate.

They debated for two rounds before an hour-long lunch break followed by
round 3 and round 4. After all four rounds, everyone gathered in the hall for the break
announcements. Teams “KCH B just give us the win” and “KCH C pls give us the win”
unfortunately stopped their conquest in this debate by the end of the first day. Team “KCH
A just let us win lah” on the other hand managed to break in the eighth place and move
onward towards the pre-semifinals the next day, before stopping there as well.

At the end of the day, the teams learnt a lot from their opponents and their judges.
They vow to work hard in the next tournament to try and bring home a victory for the club.
