Even without governmental support, non- allure
governmental organisations (NGOs) and other volunteer
groups have stepped up to fill in the gap by providing
much-needed care for our elderlies. Pressure groups and
NGOs such as The Malaysian Healthy Ageing Society

(MHAS) and RumahKasih have long been serving old
people in poverty, stepping in to assist them in the nick of
time. However, some still fall through the cracks, which

is why a cohesive platform between all stakeholders is
needed to address issues such as the “rights of seniors,
social and financial security, and better access to
healthcare”.

is measured by how it treats its weakest members”.
Everyone should be given the chance to age and die with

dignity. “Aching”, during one’s golden years, is a grave
injustice.
