Our Way of Learning
Kuen Cheng High School is an Independent Chinese Secondary School; Chinese language is
highly regarded and widely used by our community as it is our mother tongue, language of
one of the largest ethnic groups in Malaysia. Kuen Cheng High School follows closely the
national education standards of Malaysia, we practise a dual-track system. We teach both the
standard syllabus of the Independent Chinese Secondary Schools and the required national
curriculum of secondary education. On top of this, we enhance our students’ education by
integrating interesting, well-designed textbooks or relevant programmes from both local and
international publishers. For English, we apply the CEFR Standard (The Common European
Framework of Reference of Languages); for Mathematics and Science we use both Chinese
and English as the medium of instruction. Students must learn Chinese, English, and the
Malay language. Examinations of Junior Unified Examination Certificate (JUEC), Sijil
Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM, the Malaysian Certificate of Education), Senior Unified
Examination Certificate (SUEC) must be taken in specific order.

The 21 century is one filled with "unknowns", the education system of the past, which
emphasized on obtaining information is not enough to prepare our children for the future.
Students today must be prepared for many different types of challenges that lie ahead, a
rapidly changing, digital age. Developing in our students the right skills to succeed in this
uncertain world is the major concern of Kuen Cheng High School. Determination, curiosity,
responsibility, courage, confidence, agility, and adaptability are not necessarily innate
qualities and strengths; so, school plays an important role in character building and other
personal development of students. Kuen Cheng High School places great importance on
exploring and cultivating different learning experiences and styles, carried out jointly by
teachers and students. In addition to academic excellence, our students acquire skills,
qualities and attitudes to meet ever-changing and demanding situations in their daily lives,
through the Self-directed Learning Day, which takes place every Saturday. Most importantly,
we strive to ensure that our students are both studying and enjoying their school life here.
Hard-working, excellent teachers contribute to our students’ growth and the high quality of
their education. At Kuen Cheng High School, our dedicated teachers nurture and reach out to
both inspire students’ creativity and to help them meet challenging academic demands.
