VERSE (SR1,SR2&SR3) : THIRD PLACE
SUperStition
Amy Cheong Zhaoyi, SR2SCD
I was brought up by superstition, Some superstitions never made sense,
It was like a second mother, Though I never gave it much doubt,
Rules and regulations, Sometimes you have to clap before the thunder,
That nobody wanted to bother. And never say your dreams out loud.
Unwritten and sourceless, If you whistle in the dark,
Passed down from one to another, You will get spooked,
Like, “Never lie to your parents, Wisdom will only respect you,
Or your food will turn sour.” If you respect your books.
Superstitions brought me up, Superstitions are matchmakers,
And I did everything it told me to do, They make your head airy,
“Don’t eavesdrop, don’t cheat, Like, “If a boy gives you an orange,
Don’t point at the moon.” It is him you should marry.”
Because a demon will chop your ear off, First love is tough,
And your thumb while it’s at it, too. So go ahead and date many,
Remember to finish your milk, And if you’re lucky, pray before the baby comes,
Before you turn into a baboon. So it will be healthy.
Never cut your nails at night, I was brought up by superstition,
Finish your medicine in only one bite, It is my savior, my power,
My grandma makes me eat my rice, Believe in them, I do,
“Or you’ll be someone’s ugly wife!” For sixty minutes every hour.
It is better to believe in them, So here’s my advice:
And not put up a fight, Follow this superstition,
You can not follow them, “If you loved my story at this moment,
But you may surely die. Let it win this competition.”
