Joining this project has been fun... From my perspective at least.
Watching the internal drama unveil, all the hard work that each
individual put into editing, composing and designing every aspect
of this magazine.
- Ho Jin Xian Sr1ScC, captivating writer
Writers and reporters, undoubtedly the outline of the magazine. With such broad themes, each
writer and reporter is tasked with anything and everything within creating a masterpiece fit for our
readers’ liking.
Naturally, all writers and reporters were grateful for the platform they've been given to express
their writing, as the magazine, being one of the only structured English mediums within Kuen Cheng
High School, gave them reason to write. They found more room for creativity and experimentation
through the theme of “Exploration”. Some even made lots of cool friends! They gawked at the
improved layout as their pieces are easier to read thanks to the typesetting. The artwork and
photography was deemed to be very suitable too as they conveyed each piece wonderfully. Of
course, most writers and reporters would love to have a hardcopy of the magazine too!
Despite the few hurdles, I truly enjoyed the whole process! I had the
privilege of reading numerous outstanding proses before anyone
else! I can clearly recall a few instances where I forgot about
proofreading - being captivated by beautiful works.

If writing is the smelting of a blade, then proofreading is the grindstone. Each written piece within
the magazine is put through the process of evaluation by not just teachers but students too.
Proofreaders are expected to look out for not only grammar mistakes, but are in charge of fact-
checking, plagiarism-checking, and editing the overall structure of each piece to suit the flow of
writing and convey a clearer message. Truly a meticulous task suited only for the sharpest of critics.
The proofreaders of this year's magazine were relieved to be working with a well-organised and
prepared structure of proofreading as compared to previous years. It made their tasks much easier
to manage even with a busy schedule. Great improvements in communication were applauded too,
especially regarding the magazine committee’s team lunch which was held in celebration of the
152 magazine’s completed draft.
looks nice. As for the 2024 magazine/ committee, I wish nothing
but the best for you guys! I cannot wait to see the 2023
magazine and future publications!
If the writers and reporters are the outline of the magazine, then the typesetters would be the ones

highlighting it in stylistic designs. Typesetters have arguably one of the hardest jobs within the
magazine, each being in charge of attracting the reader with visual layouts that not only need to fit
the theme, but also ensure the elements used fit the contents by understanding the meaning and
emotions of each written piece. On top of that, they are expected to coordinate with each others’
typesetting style.
Hence why the typesetters of this year’s magazine were satisfied with the consistent formatting and
design style, especially when compared to previous iterations. They proved to be a friendly and
helpful team, each being grateful for the learning opportunity in typesetting, particularly with the
use of InDesign.
Being themed around exploration, illustrating for this magazine
really pushed me out of my comfort zone to experiment more with
art.

As the name suggests, artists are in charge of all artwork within the magazine. They are also
expected to coordinate their artstyle to fit the theme of each written piece they are tasked with,
illustrating each scenario with the right emotions.
When asked, the artists expressed satisfaction regarding the usage of their illustrations within the
theme. They were also pleasantly surprised with the niche topics covered and wished for more
exposure within the magazine.
The entire process was enjoyable, and the final draft is truly stunning.
Thank you to everyone who contributed their creativity and dedication!
Looking forward to a continuation of inclusivity and innovation in next
year's magazine as well :)

The photographers of the magazine were tasked with the challenge of capturing ephemeral beauty
within their lenses, tailored to suit the needs of each subtopic and chapter break.
The photographers were grateful for the opportunities and inclusivity of both photography and
illustrations. However, some hoped for better coordination and task management within the team.
They hoped to incorporate more fun tasks for photographers to help with as some believed the
scope of each subtopic proved to be quite challenging to capture within a single picture.
