Behind-the-Scenes at
“Grateful for the guidance of seniors”

As a Junior Middle Two student, I am
the youngest among the organising
committees. Even so, the seniors from both
schools were quite attentive and caring
when guiding me in my work, which I
am extremely grateful for. Apart from the
presidents, the other organising committee
members from Hin Hua were also very
enthusiastic and friendly, allowing a
joyous atmosphere to arise while we were
still in the process of preparation. If I were
to grade the event, I would give it an 8.
As this is the first interschool exchange
event we’ve held, I would say the workshop
has met my expectations, bringing a
satisfying end to such a successful event.
Lastly, I would like to thank Hin Hua High
School’s Mass Communication Society
Editorial Board for the invitation, giving
both schools a chance to collaborate. If the
future conditions permit as such, I hope
both schools will have an opportunity to
organize a similar event face-to-face in
person.

This is my first time being the President for
the organising committee of an interschool
exchange workshop. As such, I believe
that there is still room for improvement
in several segments, but at the same time,
I want to thank the Committee and the
participants of the workshop for their
patience and cooperation. I have always
heard that Kuen Cheng’s Newsletter Club
has achieved major accomplishments in
not only English and Chinese writing, but
also typesetting and publishing skills. Thus,
I feel that this workshop was able to give my
club members an opportunity to upgrade
themselves. Furthermore, this event
provided a platform for communication
between schools and allowed others to find
more like-minded friends. Finally, I hope
that the relations between both schools
will get even better as time passes.

Tea: An Exclusive
Interview With Mr.
Joshua Tan
As most of us know, Kuen Cheng High Note by reporter: Some famous classical
School Library has recently organised English literature include works by
the first-ever “Literature Afternoon Tea” Frenchman Victor Hugo (‘Les Misérables’
event, with Mr. Joshua Tan Chong Hui and ‘The Hunchback of Notre Dame’),
from the English Department sharing Brit Charles Dickens (‘Great Expectations’
William Shakespeare’s classic rom-com, and ‘A Christmas Carol’), and last but not
“A Midsummer Night’s Dream”. I had the least, another famous British playwright,
lucky chance to interview Mr. Joshua Tan William Shakespeare (‘Romeo and Juliet’
on his thoughts on the activity. Let’s take and ‘Macbeth’). Of course, there are other

out yourself!
What was the main goal of this activity?
What are your thoughts on this activity?
One of the main goals of this was so that
students may consider reading classical What an honour it is to be able to share a
literature, and maybe other teachers could renowned classical literature with students
do the same thing too! Students may also who love books! I am also pleasantly
start reading books regardless of language surprised by the number of students who
(e.g: They might read ‘A Midsummer Night’s attended the sharing session, seeing that
Dream’ in their own mother tongue or a the interest in classical literature among
simplified version, instead of the original teenagers has been dwindling in recent
work from Shakespeare). They might also years. Nonetheless, I think it’s safe to say
reconsider their approach towards reading, that not only did we have fun, but also
since it can be an interactive experience, got to engage with A Midsummer Night’s
too. Dream from a more intimate perspective,
of which I am thankful. I am hopeful that
the attendees of this event will at least get to
know a very famous play in A Midsummer’s
Night Dream. Some might even borrow a
few of Shakespeare’s works to read, which
could be the beginning of their journey
towards reading and appreciating classical
literature (regardless of languages).
