Kuen Cheng High School Newsletter Club and Chong Hwa Independent High School Bulletin Club jointly held an Inter-school News Camp at Kuen Cheng High School on 1st June 2023. This event has been intended to strengthen the relationship of both clubs, with an aim to improve the knowledge and skills on news reporting and its editing.

Soon after the campers from both schools gathered and completed the registration, they participated in a large group ice-breaking activity called “Crazy Scarecrow.” The game was played in the style of “123 Wooden Man,” where each group member had to hold onto a balloon with a rope and prevent it from falling and touching the “scarecrow”. The campers were then divided into smaller groups and led by counsellors to engage in ice-breaking activities to get to know each other better.

Then, we had the opening ceremony, where teacher-advisors from both schools gave speeches and presented souvenirs as tokens of appreciation.

After that, we moved on to our layout design course, in which representatives from both schools shared their knowledge and hands-on experience with Adobe InDesign software, allowing all camp participants to practise typography activities. The campers then engaged in a creative typography competition in small groups, which facilitated the exchange of typography skills among the participants. Afterwards, the responsible students and teachers provided feedback and critiques on the works of each group, greatly benefiting the campers.

After having lunch, the campers then carried out an interview course conducted by our school’s Chinese Teacher, Mr. Chew Yi Kang, who is also one of our Club teacher-advisors. During the course, he introduced us to the definition of an interview and preparatory work for interviews.

The campers were then engaged in game-like interview activities, interviewing characters and playing games to obtain clues and capture the “culprit” who stole the trophy. This has not only improved their interviewing skills but also provided them with special on-the-spot reactions.
