On the 5th of May, Kuen Cheng High School’s Newsletter Club collaborated with Hin Hua High School’s Mass Communication Society Editorial Board to jointly organize an Online Typesetting Exchange Workshop. The event was remarkably insightful and well-received, undoubtedly having been meticulously prepared for beforehand by the organizing committee.

Following the next few weeks past the event, the Newsletter Club interviewed the Presidents of the event’s organizing committee to see what it was like to work behind the scenes.

“Strengthen the relationship between both clubs.”
Soo Zi Ming (President of Kuen Cheng Newsletter Club)
This workshop was the first-ever interschool exchange event the Newsletter Club has organized, meaning that we didn’t have much experience on the matter. Fortunately, the Mass Communication Society Editorial Board is comparably experienced at such forms of preparation and were incredibly efficient with their work. Therefore, I personally learned quite a lot from them while the preparations were still in order, for example: how to organize activities, formulate plans etc. My first impression of the committee members from Hin Hua High School’s Mass Communication Society Editorial Board was that they were all outstandingly lively and enthusiastic. Over the 4-month course of preparations made, we’ve managed to strengthen the relationship between both clubs. Given the chance, I hope to have more exchanges with Hin Hua High School next year.

“Grateful for the guidance of seniors”
Lee Zi Lin (Vice President of Kuen Cheng Newsletter Club)
As a Junior Middle Two student, I am the youngest among the organising committees. Even so, the seniors from both schools were quite attentive and caring when guiding me in my work, which I am extremely grateful for. Apart from the presidents, the other organising committee members from Hin Hua were also very enthusiastic and friendly, allowing a joyous atmosphere to arise while we were still in the process of preparation. If I were to grade the event, I would give it an 8. As this is the first interschool exchange event we’ve held, I would say the workshop has met my expectations, bringing a satisfying end to such a successful event. Lastly, I would like to thank Hin Hua High School’s Mass Communication Society Editorial Board for the invitation, giving both schools a chance to collaborate. If the future conditions permit as such, I hope both schools will have an opportunity to organize a similar event face-to-face in person.

“A communication platform for students of both Hin Hua and Kuen Cheng.”
Chew Ker Xin (President of Hin Hua High School’s Mass Communication Society Editorial Board)
This is my first time being the President for the organising committee of an interschool exchange workshop. As such, I believe that there is still room for improvement in several segments, but at the same time, I want to thank the Committee and the participants of the workshop for their patience and cooperation. I have always heard that Kuen Cheng’s Newsletter Club has achieved major accomplishments in not only English and Chinese writing, but also typesetting and publishing skills. Thus, I feel that this workshop was able to give my club members an opportunity to upgrade themselves. Furthermore, this event provided a platform for communication between schools and allowed others to find more like-minded friends. Finally, I hope that the relations between both schools will get even better as time passes.
