In celebration of Kuen Cheng High School’s 113th Anniversary and Teacher’s Day, several competitions were held virtually by the Organizing Committee. Among them was a trivia competition named “Who is the Memory Billionaire?” for students to know more about the School’s history, staff members and many more.

The preliminary round was on the 11th of August. Each class representative had to answer questions via the Quizizz website. Top 5 from the Junior and Senior categories would advance to the semi-finals. List of the name and classes are as below:

For the Junior category,

  1. Chuah E-Jun of Jr1S(2)

  2. Cheow Yee Ching of Jr3Z(1)

  3. Lim Zhi Shan of Jr2S(1)

  4. Lim Zhi Yin of Jr3Z(2)

  5. Wong Yi Ting of Jr1M(1)

For the Senior category,

  1. Hoh Xuan Loong of Sr1ScA

  2. Grace Lim Mei Yin of Sr3ScD

  3. Kam Hew Lam of Sr2ScB

  4. Chan Ren Ai of Sr1ComB

  5. Hoo Ying Yi of Sr1ScB

All ten contestants attended a Zoom meeting for the board game-like semi-finals. To gain the chance to answer the question shown, they had to respond quickly. The first contestant that responded had 5 seconds to answer. If answered correctly, the contestant will then move up the spaces according to the marks obtained. If not, the contestant will move backward. The special abilities and PK questions pitted them against each other, which made the competition more intense and exciting.

The organizers came up with many compelling scenarios and sneaky tricks to complicate the questions but to no avail. Chan Ren Ai of Sr1ComB won the competition by a landslide when the one-hour time limit was up, with Kam Hew Lam of Sr2ScB and Hoo Ying Yi of Sr1ScB both a row beneath her. With the three finalists secured, the audience encouraged the other contestants with showers of compliments in the Chat section. There was a five-minute break before moving on to the finals.

During the finals, the three had to answer ten questions within thirty minutes. The set of questions were different for each of them. Every correctly answered question would move to a higher level on the Prize Pyramid. Each level had unique prizes, such as a teacher’s selfie. They went up the pyramid continuously until a question was answered wrongly. Whoever reached the highest level on the pyramid would be the champion.

The questions were about school rules and regulations, awards Kuen Cheng received throughout the year and even questions about the staff members. One question required the contestants to draw a portrait of a teacher then openly voted by the audience.

Hoo Ying Yi of Sr1ScB went first and completed nine levels until the timer went off. She readily accepted the challenge to attempt the most difficult question. Kam Hew Lam of Sr2ScB and Chan Ren Ai of Sr1ComB both went through similar procedures, with them also succeeding to the ninth question and invited to challenge the tenth. Chan Ren Ai immediately jumped at the chance, but Kam Hew Lam was content at where she was and refused the offer.

The competition was at its highest peak during the showdown between the two contestants. The last question was a short story where they had to identify the wrongdoings of the main character and their severity according to the school rules. In the end, Chan Ren Ai completed all the questions with a perfect score, earning the champion title and the biggest prize – customized badges for her class and an overdraft card worth RM 150. The 2nd place was Kam Hew Lam who stayed on the ninth level and won an overdraft card worth RM 100. In third place was Hoo Ying Yi, who lost the bet and went back to the seventh level, earning her a book coupon that can be redeemed at the School’s tuck shop.
