The human mind, developing far beyond our imaginations, absorbing all the knowledge we seek, and growing evermore. On the 27th of January, the Senior Middle One students of Kuen Cheng High School participated in a warm and encouraging ceremony regarding the celebration of their growth, officially entering the latter half of their secondary school lives.

Though students were not allowed to gather in the school hall, the ceremony still went on as Form Teachers led the celebration for each class with a slideshow prepared by the School Counselling Department.

Starting off, the Form Teachers shared a pre-recorded video with the Principal, Dr. Chua Lee Lee giving a congratulatory speech. She wished only the best for the Senior 1 students in the rest of their endeavours, hoping that they will be able to persist through their journey to the end of their secondary school lives.

Moving on, students were asked if they had started to truly identify themselves as senior students. While some agreed, others still felt as if they were not prepared for their senior-high lives. There was also a small activity where students were instructed to choose a number from 1 to 10 depending on how difficult they wanted the following challenge to be for them. Then, students had to multiply their number by 30 and raise their water bottle up for that amount of time.

After the activity, students were asked if the amount of time their bottles were lifted was the same as their classmates’. It was obvious that due to the size of the water bottle and the amount of time they were lifting it for, the weights they all lifted were of different magnitudes. Teachers explained that everyone has different burdens to carry, some for longer periods of time as well. Thus, students should refrain from comparing their burdens with others and should keep going even when others have stopped.
