Spring Couplet Perfecting Competition: Order of The Sexagenary Cycle

Based on the Sexagenary Cycle of Ancient China, 2022 is the 39th year in the third millennium, also known as the first “壬寅” of this kiloannum, which can also be found from a Lunar Calendar. As Kuen Cheng High School welcomed the arrival of spring, a couplet-themed competition was held from the 5th to 22nd of January, but with a twist.

Unlike usual, participants were given couplet templates with specific words blanked out on them, and their job was to fill in those empty boxes to the best of their creativity. Contestants were also told to design the backgrounds of their couplets, too. The competition was organized by the Committee of 2022 Spring Festival Cultural Week Couplet Creation Competition. Furthermore, there were two categories for the competition, namely senior and junior categories.

After going through a round of judging by Ms. Theng Kai Joe, Mr. Chia Swee En, and Mr. Tan Chee Long, the results of the competition were announced via e-mail and the School’s official Facebook page. The awards given were of two different categories, distinction, and honorable mentions.

Junior Category：

Even in the form of such short excerpts, the contestants managed to convey the heartiest of blessings to all in a traditional yet creative sense. They described their works as an idea of new beginnings and prosperity, wishing the best for everyone. We, members of the Kuen Cheng Newsletter Club, would like to congratulate all the winners on their excellence, and lastly, wish everyone a Happy Chinese New Year!
