rsz_doctor_chia_vwrene“Many of my friends who work as frontline healthcare workers are extremely exhausted with their long working hours. They are obliged to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during their 12-hour shift to lower the risk of being infected.”

Doctor Chia Vwrene is an alumna of Kuen Cheng High School from 2009. We are lucky enough to know her and be able to do an interview with her regarding the Covid-19 cases, unprecedented global outbreak since January, early last year. She has expressed her concern and gave her genuine opinions about the issue.
Ever since she was a medical student, she has developed a high interest in Orthopaedics (study of musculoskeletal system). It was due to her strong belief that she could help her parents as well as her family members with her medical knowledge. She achieved success along with her hard work, dedication and perseverance; she pursued her dreams in Hospital Kuala Lumpur and is now working as a third year Medical Doctor.

Malaysia has reported a daily record of 5725 cases on 29th January 2021, a sharp rise from previous days. Hospitals have insufficient supplies for Covid-19 patients, said Dr. Chia. Hospital Kuala Lumpur is a hybrid hospital where some of their wards are reserved for Covid-19 patients. However, the lack of supply has been a major problem. The hospital had to source funds to purchase additional equipment such as ventilators and immunity drugs.

Moving on, she has also explained the risk of the virus leaving severe after effects to our body. “There is a risk that the virus may affect our body in unknown ways as it is yet to be explored. Research is still being conducted in respective universities.”

Frankly, the best prevention during the pandemic is one must adhere to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). This includes wearing a mask, washing and sanitizing your hands and maintaining a safe distance within one another. She mentioned that each citizen plays a role in sustaining the growth of our dynamic economy and country. Without cooperation from all concerned, the Covid-19 situation nonetheless will worsen and continue to spread more easily.

Maintaining good healthcare system and welfare of our people is paramount to Malaysian Government. With regards to the track-and-trace system, we have yet to be able to completely track positive patients and possible infection groups. “There are still rooms for improvement. The situation could be better if changes respond to the system can be made. We could even have more doctors to help us in managing the hospital.” shared Dr. Chia.

Lastly, she wished everyone a Happy Lunar New Year and reminded us to take extreme care of our health and safety.
