On the 11th of June 2021, the Western Calligraphy Club organized a scrapbook journal workshop from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m as part of the events for Co-curricular Online Carnival. The speakers were students Lai Jing Ern, Ng Rui and Pang Yee Hen. Around 70 interested participants took part in the workshop.

First, the speakers gave a brief introduction about scrapbook journals. We can make them as a hobby, or to be used as a diary or as a to-do list. The materials needed include pictures, papers, stickers, stamps, washi tapes, notebooks and newspaper cuttings, all according to our own taste.

Lai Jing Ern first started by making a Rosé (member of Blackpink, a Kpop girl group) themed page. She chose as her theme through a poll conducted on social media. She prepared the pictures she wanted to use in advance to avoid wasting her time. She pasted the pictures randomly on the page while making it look beautiful.

Next, she created a page which was NCT (a Korean boy band) themed. The members’ photos were included. She used decorative hologram stickers among other stickers to make the whole page beautiful.

After that came a Q&A session. Many participants asked what items they should buy for starters. Below there are items suggested by the speaker:

Brush Pen: Pentel brush sign pen/Sakura Koi (more affordable)

Notebook: Various Muji notebooks (more affordable)

Midori (more expensive, suggested for those who plan to do this long term)

Overall, the activity was a success. Don’t forget to follow them on Instagram at @kc_western_calligraphy and on Facebook at 坤成中学西方书法学会!
