4 years after being held back by Covid-19, Kuen Cheng High School finally held their first school assembly on the 4th of February 2023. All students ranging from Junior Middle One to Senior Middle Three attended this first assembly with much anticipation.
Before starting off with any important news, all students were requested to stand up and pay respects to our beloved country, Malaysia, by singing the national anthem. The hall was filled with every student’s voice in harmony and unity. It was truly a heartwarming experience.
Afterwards, the school Principal, Dr Chua Lee Lee, went up on stage to an uproar of clapping from the students. She expressed that she felt touched to hear the national anthem being sung by everyone after so many years. Madam Chua also expressed her gratitude to the school’s Discipline Department for managing both the Kuen Cheng High School Prefectorial Board and the Kuen Cheng High School Monitor’s Club. Before departing the stage, she wished for everyone to look forward to the upcoming activities that will be held.
Next was a speech given by two representatives each from the Kuen Cheng High School Prefectorial Board and Monitor’s Club. They gave a sneak-peek into the two upcoming events regarding school safety. The first activity is Bingo, where you need to achieve a specific pattern on the bingo board to win. You can use Instagram and tag 5 friends to participate in the game. The second activity is dedicated to all the comic lovers. Those who have an interest in comic-making, can draw a simple A4-sized comic panel related to school safety! All students from Junior Middle One to Senior Middle Three can participate in this event. Those who participate will have their participation noted on their academic achievements list.
Besides that, a brief explanation of the Fire Drill was given. A representative mentioned how some students were not able to participate in the Fire Drill last year as they were having online classes, however this year everyone will have a chance to experience it. They also mentioned that there will be a Disaster Avoidance Theme Quiz Game held from the 14th to the 16th of February. Everyone is allowed to participate in this game, and all participants will receive at least one piece of candy. There will also be many events related to school order in the upcoming months. A quick Q&A based video focusing on school order was shown on the screen.
Other than that, a new device that will be placed on the school campus was introduced, namely an AED defibrillator. The representatives explained the usage, importance, and location of the defibrillator. Next, a video tutorial on how to use the AED defibrillator was shown. They had also showcased a school safety booklet, which will be sent to each class. They advised all students to take their time and read it.
Two prefects came onto the stage to give a presentation on ‘etiquette’. They thoroughly explained the definition behind ‘etiquette’, and came up with a few scenario questions and solutions for students to watch. The most important scene was the elevator scene, in which the prefects explained when students are allowed to use the lift (Morning: until 0725am, first break: until 1015am and second break: until 1250pm). Students who have special reasons to use the lift were advised to go to the Discipline Department to receive a lift pass. The next bit of information was directed to all students, which was how to queue up properly. Every class and student should be fast, quiet and neat when queueing up.
Hence, a teacher came up to the stage to give some exciting news. Last year, a fundraising event was held to raise money for children in need. And in order to raise money, the school sold toothbrushes to students. This time, the teacher was happy to announce that our school has raised over RM4000 to donate!
And with that, the first assembly of 2023 was coming to an end. The teacher praised the students’ singing of the national anthem once again. Needless to say, it was an extremely successful assembly.
