For the purpose of feeling the cultural and educational atmosphere of overseas Chinese festivals in Malaysia, Mr Cheng Fei, a teacher from Hebei Normal University, China visited Kuen Cheng High School on the 24th of June 2023 and had a tour of the school compound, along with the “Duan Wu Theme Activity” of students’ Independent Learning Day of Kuen Cheng High School in the form of live broadcast.

Mr Cheng Fei Introducing Kuen Cheng High School via Livestream

The activities commenced with a brief self-introduction of both the teachers, Madam Loh Hoi Yuen, our Admin Head of the Academic Department and Mr Cheng Fei. Both teachers, filled with the spirit of enthusiasm, ushered an estimated number of 900 overseas teachers and students, where they embarked on their journey of exploring the school compound. Later, Madam Loh began introducing the school’s status during the livestream. As she entered the school canteen, Senior Middle Three students were all engaging themselves in the process of wrapping those rice dumplings. Warm smiles and excitement from the students filled the screen of the livestream as they noticed the arrival of Madam Loh and Mr Cheng. Mr Cheng then randomly selected and interviewed a few Senior Middle Three students about their thoughts and feelings on the rice dumpling wrapping event. They also arrived at the other Senior Middle Three classrooms and set eyes on the students that were doing their utmost on creating their scrumptious and unique rice dumplings.

Later on, in the lead of Madam Loh, Mr Cheng Fei proceeded over to the Auditorium to watch the biotechnology seminar involving Senior Middle Three Science students. On the second to third floor downstairs is where the school library is located. The Admin Head of the library, Madam Ong Lay Fong, warmly welcomes the live broadcast’s audience. During recess, Mr Cheng Fei brought the live broadcast over to Lee Shin Cheng Hall to enjoy the Duan Wu Festival programs: Chinese Orchestra “Joyful Festival”, the poetry recitation of “Qu Yuan Pagoda”, dragon dance performance of the Wushu Club, and the choir performance “Zongzi”. The finale is the dragon boat race.

After enjoying the exhilarating Dragon Boat competition, we headed to the basketball court to have a grasp of the student’s enthusiasm during recess hour. Then, we moved to Block A Lobby to have a look at our school’s architectural model, with Madam Loh explaining and introducing our school’s architectural structure thoroughly. Lastly, we went back to the outdoor car park and ended the lifestream.

After the lifestream ended, we were honoured to interview the two hosts. It was astonishing to know that Mr Cheng Fei stated that his university’s tutor was a Kuen Cheng High School alumni, and hence was introduced to Kuen Cheng. Thus, they decided to join our school for this livestream in order to further understand and promote more about Malaysian Chinese culture and education. It was a fruitful experience.
