In conjunction with the Merdeka Day of Malaysia, a series of contests were held. One of them being a portrait drawing contest. This contest is the perfect opportunity for artistic students to express their patriotism through the medium they are proficient in. Contestants were given a month’s or so time with the deadline as 22nd of August 2022.
Contestants were to hand in a black and white drawn portrait of a national hero or leader of choice on an A3 size drawing block. The portraits were then handed to the subject teachers for submission.
Every class from Junior Middle One to Senior Middle Two is required to have at least one representative in this competition. After some meticulous reviewing of many fabulous artworks, a total of ten winners have emerged from the competition. Five for the Juniors group and five for the Seniors group.
From the Juniors group, we have contestant Low Haw Ee from Jr2S(2) in 5th place. With Ng Sheng Yi from Jr1Z(3) just one rank higher than them. For the second runner-up, we have Lai Wai Him from Jr2Z(2). We also have contestant Ngeow Li Yue from Jr3Z(4) as the first runner-up. Lastly, holding the title of champion is Chong En Ce from Jr3S(1)!
As for the Seniors group, contestant Yap Jia Yi from Sr2A nabs 5th place. One of Sr1A’s representatives, Chong Karr Ann, holds the 4th position. In 3rd place, we have Chan Yee Leng from Sr2ComB. Holding 2nd place is Lim Jin Tong as Sr1ComA’s representative. Finally, we have the 1st place bestowed upon contestant Wan Ning from Sr1A.
The winning artworks displayed were truly astonishing and they each showed a unique artstyle of their respective artists. They are displayed on a bulletin board located in front of the cafeteria, for those who are interested in viewing the remarkable artworks.
I myself participated in this competition. My piece of art was based on the widely-known picture of Tunku Abdul Rahman, Founding Father of our Nation and the First Prime Minister. Sadly, I did not win a place in the contest, but I was happy that I joined. Personally I really enjoy these types of contests and hope that there will be more of such competitions in the future.
