On 20th August 2022, Kuen Cheng High School invited two seniors who were both from independent schools, to share their experiences with their juniors about career planning and navigating their study abroad journey.
The first speaker is MR. NG KE LIANG. He graduated from the Chinese High School located in Johor and is now pursuing a doctorate degree in the Institute of Sociology at National Taiwan University. He kicked off the sharing session by telling his personal experience in the past few years.
MR. NG was not an excellent student, but he had been working hard to chase after his dreams, despite some financial burdens. When studying abroad, he learnt how to arrange a perfect class schedule. He also studied very hard to apply for scholarships in order to reduce his financial burden. Moreover, he even applied for an early graduation just to save some tuition fees. All the efforts made by him above were just to be an independent self and not rely on his parents anymore.
MR. NG also said that he saw a different picture of Taiwan than he had imagined earlier after studying abroad there. In Taiwan, where young people have high awareness of social issues, has inspired him to do research on Malaysian Society now. Finally, he stressed that we must be ready to confront failure and level up our mindset in continuing to fight for our bright future.
Moving on, the sharing session was taken over by MR. THEN CHEE KIN. MR. THEN graduated from Tsun Jin High School and then to Taipei Medical University, he also did some cancer research in the United Kingdom. He works at Shuanghe Hospital in New Taipei City and is currently a resident physician. He believed that participating in the UEC exam is a manifestation of support for Chinese education. Being honored as an independent school student, he had so many opportunities to participate in different types of extracurricular activities.
Besides, he stated that the professors in Taiwan are actually similar to the teachers of independent schools. They are always enthusiastic in answering questions from students and also will do their best in helping students to complete their research tasks.
To sum it up, it was an honor to invite the two speakers, MR. NG and MR. THEN to share their experiences as independent school students with the students in Kuen Cheng High School. Hope the students gained something from the sharing session to help them plan their future better.
