On 17 June 2019, colorful cubes were poured out onto a table, six bright colors on each side. This was the preparation of the Cube Pixel Art Competition, held in conjunction with the Science Week, starting on the 2nd recesses from this day until the 20th of June.
There were a total of 15 teams taking up the challenge, ready to flaunt their skills and abilities. The theme on each day was different, comprising Mario, Minecraft, and other cartoon characters. The students then get started on the Rubik’s cube in front of them; their goal was not to solve them, but to create tasteful pieces of pixel artwork corresponding to the theme.
“The aim of this competition is to help students cultivate their creativity as well as build teamwork among their teammates,” said the student-in-charge when questioned about its purpose. Indeed, the students were discussing and debating, exchanging design ideas among themselves. Bit by bit, cube by cube, their works were forming together.
Through this competition, we understand it is as clear as daylight that many of our students own great potential. Needless to say, it’s not totally about result, but the process that we get to enjoy was meaningful and invaluable.
