Day 1

The freshmen of Junior Middle One at Kuen Cheng High School embarked on a new chapter as they transitioned to high school. The day started promptly at 7:30 a.m. with a weekly assembly, where students united in singing the national and school anthems. Following this, they engaged in a ten-minute morning reading session with their chosen books.

The class teachers briefed the students on the school’s academic methods, including how grades were calculated and their assigned subjects. An ice-breaking game was organized in each of their individual classes to help the freshmen get to know their classmates better.

At 9:50 a.m., the school held a seminar for the freshmen. It began with a performance by the 24 Festive Drums Club, “Zhao,” symbolizing new beginnings. Principal Madam Chua Lee Lee stressed the importance of learning and growth, concluding with study tips and resource guidance.

Following that, the heads of the academic department, discipline department, and library addressed the students, explaining their respective roles and department functions. After a lengthy briefing session, the students enjoyed performances including “The Second Waltz” composed by Dmitri Shostakovich, performed by the Music Composing Club and the Harmonica Club. Subsequently, the freshmen were escorted to the canteen for recess.

The final session of the first day was the Co-curricular Exhibition. Seniors showcased their clubs and societies at booths that were meticulously decorated. With 68 booths offering various activities, the crowded yet lively scene helped the freshmen bond with their seniors.

Day 2

The second day of the Freshmen’s Orientation began with the usual flag-raising ceremony and morning reading session. Not long after, the students were divided into two batches, each taking part in inter-class games named “Where is Gru?”, and class meetings.

The inter-class games consist of 4 stations. With the seniors playing the role of the hosts for each station, the students participated in the games with joy and enthusiasm. While the school was filled with laughter and a joyful atmosphere, the other batch of students carried out their first class meeting.

The class teachers introduced the concept of class meetings to the freshmen, explaining their purpose in fostering class unity and addressing issues. The Freshmen then shared their expectations for school, ranging from stress to excitement for new experiences. The Counselling Department later distributed words of encouragement from previous freshmen. This was followed with the class teachers establishing class rules and manners and assigning students to decorate notice boards with personal information and goals for the year.

Recommendations included taking initiative in making friends and balancing co-curricular activities with academics. Some seniors encouraged the freshmen to participate in more activities for a productive middle school experience, while others shared study tips.
