On 11th August 2021, Kuen Cheng High School arranged an assembly for Junior Middle 3 students via the Zoom video platform. Main purpose of the meeting was to make an introduction of the Student’s Performance Record (the Record), a new plan for students in recording their academic performance as well as the achievements in co-curricular activities.
Madam Koo Lai Ping, the School Vice Principal, explained the purpose of the Record, which was aimed at encouraging students to be active in many kinds of activities. The portfolio tracks each student’s learning progress, such as co-curricular achievements and personal growth, in hopes of increasing their confidence and motivation.
Madam Koo then showed us a learning system from developed countries which emphasized the importance of well-rounded education. The World Economic Forum (WEF) reported that the new generation lacks soft skills such as critical thinking and leadership. For that reason, the School decided to carry out this new learning plan, especially amid the pandemic. The plan resonates with our school motto, which is to assist students in finding their greatest strengths and cultivating them in turn of serving the country with gratitude. Our school strives to provide various platforms for students to explore and experience diverse fields.
There are two ways to keep track of students’ academic or learning progress.
-
The School Admin System (SAS) records all events students participated under the School Profile, and
-
Students submit a 100-word reflection on their experience and the participation certificate via a Google form.
The Record maintains these seven categories for each individual student:
-
Personal Achievement and Honors
-
Teamwork and Commitment
-
Academic Accomplishment
-
Arts, Sports and Exchange Programmes
-
Events and Community Service
-
Reading Merit
-
Exceptional Talent or Experience
