Vibrant celebrations for Chinese take place throughout Malaysia during this CNY holidays. Kuen Cheng High School will be holding a Lunar New Year Celebration – Miao Hui on Saturday, 16 February 2019 from 8 to 11:30 a.m. to usher in festival of spring.

Miao Hui is a traditional folk activity, literally held nearby or at a temple, where stalls are being set up for vendors to sell goods relating to the festive season. Residents from all walks of life gather and meet to show their support for the tradition at the event. In Malaysia, Mandarin is generally spoken by the Chinese, but mother tongue or local dialects are also widely used at home. Hokkien, Cantonese, Hakka, Teochew and Hainanese are among the more popular ones. Students of Senior Middle Three decided to undertake this Miao Hui project and do introduction of the culture and heritage. Documentaries, films about the folklore will be shown as well as a good variety of food and local dishes are being prepared to satisfy different taste buds of the foodies.
