2024 marks the 45th anniversary of the Kuen Cheng High School Drama Club. To celebrate this special year, the club committee discussed and decided to organise a play for all students, teachers, and the public to watch on the 7th and 8th of September 2024.

After months of planning, sketching, and rehearsals, everything was finally finished to perfection. The play was divided into two days so people could choose the time they preferred to watch: Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.

The play started with the leading role, Paul Smith, a deadheaded scientist who is very intelligent yet stubborn. He and his acquaintances were inventing a new chemical formula. Unfortunately, the formula failed miserably, and Paul was banished to a village where happiness was all around, also known as the Happy Village.

The village is known for its joyful atmosphere and various types of creatures living together. The village itself had a special dance which represented the village’s unique features. Paul was introduced to everyone and was welcomed into the home of a kind family, Mrs. Hubby and her children, Rou Rou and Datou, who were warm enough to offer Paul to lodge for a while at their house.

The sisters were curious about a special box that their mother had told them not to open. Thus, they asked Paul to open it for them. However, the box was not as ordinary as it seemed to be; they all were sucked into the box and ended up in a magical forest where mysterious magical creatures lived. Out of the blue, they met a mysterious rabbit named Angela, who helped them a lot. Angela guided them through a cave which contained challenges for Paul and the sisters to achieve and get back home.

After facing numerous challenges, they encountered one that could alter their fate. Walls of speaking creatures attacked Paul, while the sisters got lost and stumbled into a group of clowns who wanted them to fulfil their “fate” of becoming clowns like them.

Despite the hard challenges, they still managed to escape successfully teaching a technique learnt from their mother to the clowns. Fortunately, they made it back to the Happy Village safely.

The play ended with all the cast members joyfully performing the village dance. The organisers and committee expressed their utmost satisfaction to the outcome, and the backstage crew joined the performers on stage to express their gratitude to the audience. The producers also thanked everyone involved, including the receptionists, advertising team, ticket group, stage crew, costume designers, IT group, and the digital art team, for their unwavering help throughout the event.

The event had finally ended with actors and stage crews finding their friends and family to capture a group photo to toast upon their hard work. This event was a success for the crew, and everyone’s face was filled with joy as they left.
