On Monday, 19th of July 2021, an online interschool exchange conference was held between the Committee Members of Kuen Cheng High School Philharmonic Orchestra (KCPO) and Chong Hwa Independent High School Kuala Lumpur String Orchestra (CHSO). The conference was held via Zoom video platform.

The conference aimed to strengthen relationships between the two societies. Besides that, it also enabled committee members from both the orchestras to exchange knowledge on leadership skills as well as new techniques for events, and also share their experiences in club management (especially regarding the online classes), and further find camaraderie in their passion for music.

The conference kicked off at 1:30pm with introductory speeches given by Presidents from both societies. The speeches mainly focused on the orchestras’ internal management structure, overall operations, and past accomplishments. Next, concertmaster representatives talked about the contrasting grading systems, lesson plans and orchestra coursework implemented in the respective orchestras. The committee representatives then gave short introductions on their scope of work, which was followed by the sharing of visions and goals of each society, again by the Presidents.

Moving on, the Committee Members from each school were separated into two breakout rooms. The first group consisted of committee members in charge of general administration  (ex: treasurer, secretary, general affairs coordinator), and the other group had committee members in charge of lesson planning. Members shared their views on various topics such as switching to online learning and the difficulties that came along. They also discussed how they adapted to their new environment to overcome their problems.

At 4:15pm, all the committee members returned to the main room. Secretaries from respective schools concluded the discussions from the breakout sessions and the Presidents made their ending speeches. The conference wrapped up with committee members learning new leadership skills and forming stronger bonds.
