Selected Senior Middle Three students gathered in Kuen Cheng High School around 7.30 a.m., 18th December 2022, to board the school bus for the 2022 Memorial Ceremony in remembrance of Lim Lian Geok. The event took place at the Lim Lian Geok Memorial, which is situated in the site of the Kuala Lumpur Hokkien Cemetery. The participants included LLG Cultural Development Centre committee members, school administration staff, teachers and students. All guests waited and walked orderly into the Memorial upon arrival. Mr. Lim’s descendants also came to pay their respects to one of the greatest Malaysian Chinese educators of all time.
After the playing of the national anthem, Ms. 黄伟君 and Mr. 林俞安 sang the 2022 Chinese Education Festival theme song, “如风如日”, accompanied by Mr. 刘敬涵 by the keyboard. The lyrics told of the emotional and difficult path journeyed by Mr. Lim Lian Geok in order to obtain freedom of learning for Chinese Education.
Shortly after, josticks, bouquets of flowers, fruits and wine offerings were placed at the foot of Mr. Lim’s tombstone. Funeral orations about Mr. Lim’s greatness and sacrifice were presented by the LLG Cultural Development Centre Vice President and four Pei Yuan High School students from Kampar, Perak, followed by a minute of silence and three respectful bows to the late great educator.
李雨泽, a primary school student, then presented a violin solo and sang “一颗种子”, accompanied by her mother. Ms. 黄伟君 also sang “风雨同路组曲”, both won appreciation and applause for their performances.
Soon, the memorial ceremony for the public was over, and all participants walked up near to the tombstone and pay their respects to Mr. Lim, offering flowers provided by the organising committee. Kuen Cheng High School students together with Teacher Madam Helen Foo Mun Yee managed to take a group photo with Mr. Bock Tai Hee, another great contributor to Chinese Education.
