As Kuen Cheng High School gears toward cultivating knowledge beyond textbooks, students of Senior Three have recently conducted an investigation regarding the lost heritage of Kuala Lumpur, which used to be pride and joy of our nation. On 13 April 2019, we held a discussion on ways and methods for the restoration, for specific areas that are possible to be redeveloped to its former glory.
The historical importance is the major concern for any proposed heritage restoration; a good outcome will help to reactivate economy of a society, and it is newsworthiness. The students were enthusiastic when presented problems at hand; our beloved teacher, Ms Chua Wei Ling has expressed her trust and relief in their newest batch of Senior Three students. “There are some unexpected individuals,” she said. “They are usually quiet people, but when push comes to shove, their vibrant personality were not what she had expected.”
The students shared equal positive feedback as our teachers. They were able to interpret the development and the history behind the foundation of Kuala Lumpur. “We were able to explore answers on our own,” said Mah Yin Wei, a student from Sr3B. “Compared to what we have been taught, this is truly a fresh experience.” Brainstorming have generated some effective ideas to save the previous era’s legacy. Majority of the proposal centered on creating video clips and hosting events that will draw tourists to participate, at the same time, having it on social media is a new trend, such as displaying on the apps of Tik Tok.
“History is the tale of the past, but it will never be forgotten,” was the slogan of the project. The heritage of Kuala Lumpur will be preserved and saved only by caring citizens. We hope our students will join forces with other individuals in the redevelopment someday soon.
