On the 26th of May 2023, the long awaited Teacher’s Day was held at Kuen Cheng High School. It was a joyous scene to see each and every class and students coming together to celebrate this day.

At 8.00am sharp, all Jr3 and Sr1 students gathered at the Lee Shin Cheng Hall to view the opening ceremony, while all other Levels were stationed in their own individual classes to watch the ceremony via a YouTube livestream. Once everyone had arrived, it was officially time to begin the celebrations.

To start off, the opening performance was brought to us by the students of Sr2ScB. They danced to the song “Domino” , alongside their Form Teacher Mr Tan Wen Chen. Despite the big number of students in their class, and the difficulty of the dance, the class showed commitment and managed to end with a clean performance. Of course, as we may know, the result of such wonderful performance is inseparable from the hard work they put into practicing.

Lively parties soon kicked off in the classrooms. Students had meticulously planned this day for weeks, all to provide the best event possible for their teachers and classmates. Teachers were invited to the balloon-filled classrooms to partake in potluck feasts and lively games together with their students.

Inter-class competitions were also held concurrently with the celebrations. Students and teachers teamed up to compete in the games of tug of war, eleven-legged race and station-hopping showdown. The events were met with enthusiastic turnout as students were fired up by the prospect of absolutely demolishing their opponents alongside their dear teachers.

Even the stifling heat of the B1 parking lot couldn’t dampen the fervor of the tug of war athletes. Split into teams of 8 with 7 students and a teacher, the competitors were placed into the 3 categories of male, female and mixed. Participating classes had also gathered to show support for their teams, with students shouting cheers and chants from the sidelines as they competed.

The chants of the crowd reached a crescendo with the contention for the finals. The athletes fought valiantly, but the team of Sr1ScB triumphed over the rest. Exhausted yet celebrating nevertheless, the athletes expressed their pride over the challenging fight for first. “We’ve seen the power of teamwork with ScB” said an athlete. Mr Tan, the teacher on Sr1ScB’s team, praised the team’s unity and coordination. He also said that even though the competition was grueling and tiring, it was worth seeing his student’s happiness.

Over at the main hall, students were dashing through the eleven-legged race. Groups of 10 students were joined by their teachers in the game where coordination and timing ruled above all. Teams had their legs tied together with rope courtesy of the badminton club, while members of St. John Ambulance stood by in case of emergencies. The tightly-bound teams had to keep their steps in sync, else risking a painful fall and disqualification. 3 rounds of fast-footed fumbling cemented Sr3ComA as the decisive victors, with Jr3Z1 close behind in 2nd. Sr3ScB could only settle for a 3rd place standing.

Finally, the fresh-faced Juniors joined the station-hopping showdown. 6 students ranging from Jr1 to Jr2 were guided by their supporting teacher on a hunt for 6 stations scattered across the school grounds. These stations manned by their seniors offered a multitude of educational challenges, including a mathematics themed game where competitors were tasked with forming the most equations that led to the same answer using the provided flashcards.
