On the 4th of February 2023, Kuen Cheng Counseling Department held an activity named ‘The Growth & Motivation Gift’ in the hall with Teacher, Ms Aw Pei Xin as the host.
The event officially kicked off with a speech from the Principal, Dr Chua Lee Lee. She started by congratulating everyone for their hard work that earned them their entrance ticket to a senior school life. It was not an easy task to come up this far after losing three years of junior life experience as a consequence of the pandemic. Next, she gave her advice on other aspects of life including growth, responsibility, learning, time management and habits. “The difficulties we face in our lives are present, surrounded by unavoidable negativity”, she said, encouraging all students to have a positive attitude when facing challenges.

Following up next was a challenging game session, while the teachers were handing out light sticks, students were tasked to list out at least one challenge they aim to complete this year and rate its difficulty from 1 to 10. After rating it, the number had to be multiplied by 10. This final number would be the seconds of planks each student has to complete. As a reward, those who managed to complete their plank get to light their light sticks. It was a magnificent view that everyone present would never forget!

Ms Aw concluded that everyone wishes nothing but to succeed in pursuing their dreams, but most of the time, obstacles are inevitable. Therefore, in the future, I hope everyone will brace themselves to overcome obstacles with a positive attitude. As Datuk Wira Lee Chong Wei, our former world number one badminton player, once said, “If we dare to win, we should also dare to lose”. With this, the game session officially came to an end.

The last session of the event was the growth ceremony where all Senior Middle One students pinned the Kuen Cheng badge that signifies growth, with yet another new responsibility to take on. In addition, Madam Chua also presented a beautifully designed postcard with her blessings and words of wisdom to students.
