On the 8th of March 2025 (Saturday), the school’s PE Department hosted a workout event called “火力全开” (Full Force Awakened), which was participated by Sr2 Commerce and Arts stream students. This event aimed to expose students to the world of exercise and increase their interest in working out, as the PE teachers have realised that many students, especially those in Senior 2 who are sitting for the national exams, rarely work out.
The event started at the crack of dawn, with the students gathered in the middle of the open-air car park. In the middle of the crowd was a small wooden stage where the students from the sports societies, “tipei” (体培, an acronym for what we call the students from the Athletics Training Team), were invited to give a demonstration to the attendees. The event started with a ten-minute warm-up session to prepare them for the following workout.

After a quick warm-up session, a personal workout session followed. The ‘tipei’ students then took to the stage to demonstrate the proper working out techniques. The personal workout session included 3 sets of jumping jacks x30, lunges x10, push-ups x10, ninja jump x10 and a minute’s worth of rest, which was later followed by burpees x10, high knees x15, mountain lunges and squat lunges x20. After finishing each set, another minute’s rest was given before continuing with the next set.
Upon completion of the 3 sets of personal workouts, the host asked everyone to get into pairs to initiate the partner workout session. The partner workout session included 3 sets of squat-related exercises, such as partner lunges and trying to touch one another’s arms while still in a squatting position. Other exercises included getting into a push-up position facing their partner while attempting to tap the partner’s hand, and many more fun partnership activities.

To make sure the attendees’ physical level returns back to its average physiological level, a cool-down session was conducted.

Of course, the event would not be complete without a group photo. To which all of the attendees gathered in the middle of the field to get their memories cemented into the digital film.

Before the event ended, I took the liberty of interviewing some of the participants. To which many of the participants responded by saying that the activity was extremely tiring. Even though many found the exercises exhausting, their smiles suggested they had a great time. This event proved that even a challenging workout can create lasting and enjoyable memories.
