On Saturday, 15 February 2020, our school St John Ambulance conducted a first aid drill for students of Junior Three within their respective classrooms. Preparations have been made by the Club members in the early morning. The training began immediately after the recess at 10.05 a.m. Members of St John Ambulance entered their assigned classes. Each class was given several same topics but they are allowed to be carried out in different sequence, which include CPR (Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation), choking, bandaging as well as the wound treatment.

During the CPR lesson, a CPR training mannequin named Adam was brought in to perform how to keep someone alive in a medical emergency. It is a life-saving technique. After the St John members briefly explained the steps of CPR and performed the procedures in front of the students, they then encouraged the participants to try and practice the skills just acquired. Most of the students have done well and correctly, some were just not paying full attention.

Next, members of St John Ambulance taught the students how to rescue a person from choking. They have also prepared another mannequin named Charlie. Heimlich Maneuver is the first aid procedure to help someone to dislodge the obstruction from his or her windpipe. Most of the students did not perform well because they had held the mannequin in a different position.

Bandaging is the most interesting lesson to most students. The participants were allowed to wrap the bandage on their friends. St John Ambulance members first gave good and clear guides before they practiced the skills on their friends. It is not just an ordinary lesson to the students; in a way the training has helped strengthen the friendships among the students.

Last but not least, training continued with the wound treatment. All students paid full attention and listened carefully to the instructions given by members of St John Ambulance. There was Q&A session at the end of the day session. Some students volunteered to supply the answers. Most of the students were able to answer correctly. The knowledge of first aid has been helpful and important. Every student enjoyed the First Aid Drill very much and expressed appreciation to St John Ambulance.
