On 20th July 2023 at 10.45 am, the fire alarm rang continuously throughout the school. Students were calm as they lined up a queue outside of their classes and left for the stairs smoothly. Teachers from classes, staff rooms and departments also evacuated from the teaching blocks in an orderly manner. Apparently, all of us in the school were alert about the escape route.

By 10.56 am, students from all classes had already assembled at the open-air carpark and red brick area in their respective lines while teachers gathered in front of the assembly hall a few minutes later. Teachers from the Discipline Department were holding onto their loudspeakers, maintaining the orders of students.

Despite sweating a lot under the hot sun, they stayed disciplined and calm during the fire drill. Each class’s monitor did their duty and completed the roll call. After that, the students were told to return to their classrooms.

Students returning to their classrooms

The following day, the Head of the Discipline Department, Ms Lim Siew Lian made an announcement summarizing the fire drill through the school broadcast system. She praised the students, mentioning that the fire drill yesterday was very effective and took merely 9 minutes for students to clear the entire building, which was a significant progress as compared to last year.

Overall, this unexpected fire drill has successfully increased students’ awareness for fire safety and prevention. Many thanks to the Discipline Department for organising this educational, life-saving event.
