Kuen Cheng High School students once again achieved outstanding results in the international English contests! This affirmed the School’s commitment to high standard of English language proficiency. More important, needs of our students are met and instruction in English is suitably delivered and well accepted.
Congratulations to Toh Ky Ler (20777) from Junior One C Class who is now one of the finalists from Malaysia for HIPPO 2020, the 8th International English Olympiad! The Final round was supposed to be carried out in Italy this year. However, due to the COVID-19 situation, the organiser, Global HIPPO Association has announced that it will be held online from 14 to 19 September 2020.
HIPPO 2020 is approved by our Ministry of Education for students from all Primary to Secondary schools to take part in this competition. A total of 40 students (top 10% from the Preliminary round) from Kuen Cheng High School out of 117 registered ranging from Hippo 2 to 5, entered Semi-final. And, ONE entered Final. This Competition began with the Preliminary round in early February this year.
The Olympiad is aligned to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), and the contest used exams which are approved and recognized by The Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual), the regulated English language qualifications. HIPPO is open to students and schools worldwide and intended for candidates who are not native speakers of English and who wish to achieve high quality, internationally recognised qualification in English.
