On February 12, 2025, Kuen Cheng High School Wushu Club was invited by one of Malaysia’s leading private universities, Sunway University, to perform their Wushu (martial art) skills on their campus to commemorate the end of the Chinese New Year, Chap Goh Meh.
Altogether, 19 Wushu Club members participated in this performance, chaperoned by two of the club’s teacher-advisors. The performing members met up in the school’s lobby at dawn that day to board a bus to the university. However, they were not alone in this venture; they were also accompanied by members of our school’s Gymnastic Club, who were also invited to perform at the same venue.
Upon arrival to the hallowed grounds of Sunway University, a representative from the university escorted the performers to a room where they could get ready for their big performance. There, they continued to practice tirelessly to perfect their routine before taking to the stage.

Finally, when the clock struck noon, the performers headed backstage to prepare to make an entrance. Then, as the theme played in the background, the Wushu performers made their way to the stage.
They performed a series of routines featuring the four main weapons in the wushu arsenal, which include the gun棍 (staff), dao刀 (sabre), jian剑 (sword) and qiang枪 (spear) – showcasing the variety of weapons used in this martial art. In addition to weaponry, they also performed Taichi太极, Nanquan南拳 and a bit of ribbon arts.

With each move, the martial artists moved with seriousness and with vigour as if they were on the battlefield fighting a deadly opponent while simultaneously showcasing the artistry of wushu. Their dedication to their mastery of Wushu is evident in every move.

Thus, finally, the Wushu performance ended on their part, but that was not the end of Sunway University’s Chap Goh Meh celebration, and neither was it the end for the Wushu Club performers, as they would also have an upcoming performance to showcase their skills at the school’s History Gallery opening celebration in a week.
The Wushu Club would like to extend their gratitude to Sunway University for inviting them to perform for them on their campus. It has brought forth a wonderful experience for the members of the club to perform at a different venue and showcase their talents to a broader audience.
