Embracing New Chapters: Opening Ceremony for Junior 1 & Senior 3

On 17th February 2025, Kuen Cheng High School held an opening ceremony to welcome Junior Middle One students as they embark on their new high school journey and welcome back Senior Middle Three students after completing their SPM examination.
Before the ceremony started, the prefects led the students to greet the teachers. After singing the national and school anthems, the students read the school motto, and the opening ceremony officially began.

Vice Principal Madam Chong Siew Fah began the ceremony by introducing the administration team and providing an update on the construction progress of the school’s History Gallery. Madam Chong also shared words of encouragement with Junior 1 and Senior 3 students for their study journey ahead. For Junior 1 students, she hopes that they can adjust their mindset, adapt to secondary school life — which is very different from primary school — and settle into the new environment. As for the Senior 3 students, she encourages them to embrace and overcome challenges while cherishing their final year of high school.

Later, Madam Loh Hoi Yuen, Admin Head of the Academic Department, briefed the students regarding academic affairs. She introduced and explained the latest timetable arrangements, followed by Holistic Learning Day class’ arrangements on Saturdays and class groupings. Before ending, she announced the date of this year’s academic examinations.
Vice Principal Madam Lim Siew Lian then reported regarding the discipline issues in school and emphasized on the importance of students keeping their appearance neat and tidy. Besides that, Madam Lim also pointed out that the safety of students in the school is the top priority, in order to create a harmonious and orderly environment.

Co-curricular matters were briefed by the Admin Head of the Co-Curricular Department, Madam Hee Siaw Fuey. Madam Hee informed students regarding the commencement dates for the co-curricular activities, as well as information related to the Student’s Performance Record.
A talk titled ‘The Precious Gifts of Youth’ was delivered by Vice Principal Mr. Tan Yong Chin. He introduced the four core values that could help students cope with challenges throughout the year which are ‘Faith’ (Belief, 信 – 信念), ‘Turn’ (Movement, sports, 运 – 运动), ‘Same’ (Companions, 同-同伴) and ‘Change’ (Mental change, 转-转念). To keep the energy up, Mr. Tan led the students in a brief stretching session. At the same time, Mr. Tan also shared a variety of videos that could help the students adjust to their new surroundings. In closing, he expressed his hope that all students would embark on their academic journey on a positive and joyful note.

Lastly, the presidential team of the School Safety Week carried out a safety awareness session for all students. They promoted a series of activities that will take place during the week, including the Photo Booth, Safety Quiz and several mini-games. Aside from that, they provided the most recent evacuation routes so that students have a clearer understanding on how to handle emergency situations in the future, bringing the opening ceremony to a wonderful close.
