On the 24th of June 2023, Kuen Cheng High School organised a captivating event at the hall to celebrate the Duan Wu Festival (端午节). This traditional Chinese holiday falls on the fifth day of the fifth month of the Chinese lunar calendar, which happened to be June 22nd this year.
The event commenced with an opening by the master of ceremonies, who eloquently shared the origin and significance of the festival. The audience was then treated to a mesmerising performance by the school’s Chinese Orchestra, enchanting everyone with the melodic strains of the track Joyous Days (欢腾的日子).

Following this musical delight, a group of talented students took the stage for a captivating Chinese poetry reading accompanied by the enchanting melodies of the Chinese Orchestra. The chosen poem was titled ‘Qu Yuan’s Tower’ (“屈原塔”), adding elegance and cultural richness to the event. This was followed by a choir performance by Miss S’ng Yien Ping and Lee Zhe Han, who mesmerised the audience with their rendition of the song Zongzi (粽子), accompanied by the skilled piano accompaniment of Lim Zhe Yu. The performance ignited the crowd’s enthusiasm, with hands waving in support throughout the hall.

Next, the Dragon & Lion Dance Club took the stage to present an awe-inspiring Dragon Dance. The dragon’s dynamic and mesmerising movements captured the audience’s attention, infusing the atmosphere with excitement and anticipation. Subsequently, a unique dragon boat racing activity took place. Instead of racing on water, the participants ingeniously used recycled materials to create the dragon’s body and “raced” from one side of the hall to the other, perfectly synchronised with the rhythmic beats of the drums.
