Following the much competitive preliminary Class Quiz Competition, the top ten players were selected for the finals which was held on the 9th of June 2022. The competition was hosted by Loong Kang Yew and Toh Wilbinn, students from the Environmental Society.
The competition was extremely fun and interesting as they brought in the “snakes and ladders” game. Loong Kang Yew explained the rules of the game clearly to prevent any misunderstanding. Each player can climb using ladders and will be dropped and pushed back if they touch the snake. Moreover, they have the chance to spin the roulette and advance according to the number drawn (numbers 1-6). When a player spins the wheel and lands on the grave, all players will enter a knockout round, in which each player will be asked a question and the last two players who answer the question incorrectly will be eliminated. Those who get eliminated will be given a second chance by answering questions and the two players who answer the fastest can be resurrected.
The snake and ladders game
Answering the questions correctly, the players can move forward on the board according to the number of grids set in the question while the losers stay in the same place. The player who got first place in the preliminary stage will be competing against the second place, the third competing fourth, and so on. Each player can move 1 to 2 steps forward if they answer objective questions correctly, 3 to 4 steps for multiple choice questions and 5 to 6 steps for short answer questions.
Game instructions
Once Kang Yew had finished explaining the basic rules of the game, it was about time for the first round to begin. The game started off with the student who had won first place in the previous competition. They were allowed to choose the first question. The game consisted of different types of questions which allowed the players to answer. The most interesting question that has been asked was to guess which country fulfills the following description. The chatbox in Zoom video platform was flooded with different types of answers, namely Norway, Germany, and Sweden. Nearing the end of the first round, we could see that the players were progressing fast on the board.
The second round was hosted by Wilbinn, who showed a spirit-lifting performance by hyping up all the players. Although this round mainly consisted of multiple choice questions, we also got to experience a new type of question, which was to list the endangerment levels of the 4 animals presented on the screen. It was a very simple yet motivating question to help us learn more about the importance of animals. Besides, the players got to spin the roulette! Many fortunate players have all landed on big numbers. The game moved forward rapidly in the following rounds as the players were progressing fast.
As all good things must come to an end, the game had finished with Yuan Tong, Xiao Xuan, Kai Xin, Su Wei and Ke Qin being the 5 final winners of the competition. The host, Kang Yew, requested the fellow winners to type out their personal information so that they can receive their prizes at school. Afterwards, everyone in the Zoom meeting took a photo as a good memory.
