On the 28th of January (Friday), Kuen Cheng High School held a Chinese Lunar New Year Celebration. Due to the pandemic, all of the students celebrated via Zoom platform, except for the Senior Middle Two (2021) students who needed to arrange for their examination halls at the school. Unlike the usual school uniform code, they were allowed to wear red tops and dark trousers.
The celebration started at 8:00 a.m. with a spring message from Principal Dr. Chua Lee Lee, wishing all teachers and students a happy new year. Moving on, the Physical Education Department performed a Chinese New Year music video,《U虎加把劲》. The Co-Curricular Department also prepared a creative video welcoming the Year of the Tiger. After that, the award winners of the luck packet design competition were announced by the Academic Department. A video of teachers receiving the luck packet was also played. Then, Mr Tan Hur Thong demonstrated how to fold calligraphy paper for students, so that they could prepare for their spring couplets with ease. Last but not least, a short animation reminding viewers of the upcoming CNY Festival Gala broadcast to be held on the 31st of January was played.
After the amusing lineup of videos, all the students and teachers began working on their spring couplets. With red calligraphy paper sprawled across their desks, they wrote tiger-themed greetings in Chinese to welcome the Lunar New Year. After they were finished, the Senior Middle Two (2021) students took photos to commemorate the event, as it would be their last celebration at the School together. Meanwhile, the rest of the students worked in the comfort of their homes with their teachers. Once they were done, they turned on their cameras and proudly displayed their creations as the teachers captured the moment.
With some time left to spare before arranging the examination halls, some classes held mini farewell parties for their fellow classmates who will be leaving after sitting for SPM. Snacks and beverages were distributed and many heartfelt words of gratitude were shared. Students also scurried around to take their pictures with their favourite teachers and friends. It was a truly touching moment, albeit a little bittersweet.
From 8:50 a.m. onwards, the Senior Middle Two (2021) students made their way to their assigned exam halls to arrange their seats. Everyone cooperated with the teachers to ensure that the process could be carried out smoothly, and according to the SOP. The arrangements were completed by 10:30 a.m., and students were allowed to return home. Before leaving, some students chose to stay back for more group photo sessions at the lobby of Block A.
With this, Kuen Cheng High School’s 2022 Chinese Lunar New Year celebration came to an end. Although many could not experience the festivities in person, they could still feel the joyful spirit of the Chinese New Year, thanks to the advancement of technology. Wishing everyone a healthy, happy and prosperous new year!
