During Kuen Cheng’s 2021 Co-curricular Online Carnival, the Photography Club organised a photography contest with the theme “Capturing Colours”, in hopes of increasing interest in photography amongst students and encouraging students to discover the colours of our world through the event. Participants registered via Google Form and submitted their works to the email kcphotography@kuencheng.edu.my. The event was open to all students from the 15th of May to the 12th of June.
The result was announced on the 3rd of July on the Photography Club’s Facebook page. Ch’ng Tze Ray rose above everyone else and won First Place. He thanked the Photography Club for organizing this competition during the pandemic as it had rekindled his passion for photography. He also extended his gratitude to the judges for their dedication. His winning photo was taken while visiting his relatives and stumbled upon an unknown location with mesmerizing scenery. On a whim, he summarized that photography does not always require inspiration, it just needs eyes that can discover beauty.
Justine Moo Wann Mun, to her utmost surprise, achieved Second Place, though her intention was pure interest for photography. Her submitted photograph was chosen for its magnificent tone and was taken at Singapore Changi Airport in 2019.
Third Place went to Tee Yu Zee, who took part in the competition through a friend’s recommendation. He was delighted to win with his colourful photograph which was taken on a hike two years ago.
The Excellence Prize went to Ong Zhiyu and Pang Xin Ling. Their photographs were also posted on the Photography Club’s Facebook page along with the winners’ announcement. They all showed their love for photography, having had a habit of carrying either a camera or smartphone wherever they went, especially during travelling to capture beautiful moments.
The Photography Club’s coach, Mr. Wong Kim Kiat hoped more people would appreciate the beauty and vibrancy of our world while devising the event concept, hence the theme “Capturing Colours”. He was grateful to see the competition run smoothly and wrap up as a major success.
Congratulations to all winners and a huge thanks to everyone involved in organizing this competition. It was a wonderful experience for all the participants.
