Of the many events featured in the 2023 Malay Month (Bulan Bahasa) , the entertaining yet educational “Roda Impian” game proves to be a favourite amongst participants. The Malayised spin on the popular game show “Wheel of Fortune” had challengers guess and complete Malay phrases covering a range of topics from general trivia to Malay Proverbs. Contestants score points based on the number of letters they successfully guessed, which is multiplied by whatever number their virtual wheel determines- hence the name “Roda Impian”.
Participating students complimented the activity’s clever incorporation of learning and fun, with many stating that it was an exciting, engaging and nerve-wracking competition. To quote Tan Kah Yong from Sr1ScB, a competitor in the event: “I wasn’t here to compete, just to have fun, but I’ve learnt so much because of it.” He isn’t alone in that thought, as many others claimed to have joined with a laid-back attitude, only to develop strong competitiveness as the game went on.
5 finalists from each Level managed to reach the finals, but only 3 emerged victorious from their bracket. The winners of the Sr1 bracket, Ian Syamil Soo (3rd), Ong Xing Rou (2nd) and Marcus Lim Zi Wei (1st) were rather satisfied with their results. They recommended that students should read more Malay books if they want to expand their vocabulary like they had.
In conclusion, the “Roda Impian” event was an overwhelming success that many students are looking forward to in successive Malay Month celebrations.
