In order to let students explore more about the world of work, the Counselling Department of Kuen Cheng High School extended invitation to a successful entrepreneur–Ms Jazz Ng, to give a talk on business on the 27th of July, from 3.15 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. on AV3.

Before the Talk started, students were given a piece of A4 paper. Besides, Jazz even prepared a “thank-you” card, as a gift for all of the participants.

The title of the Talk was “The things about doing business”. Jazz Ng, a Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) graduate, who studied Business Administration in Marketing, started off by sharing some of her experiences in doing business. After graduating from university, she worked for two years and realised that was not the kind of life that she wanted to pursue. Hence, she did an MNC sales job in Singapore and eventually started a company there.

In 2016, in conjunction with the market’s demand for computer-based online website advertisements, she used all her savings to create an IT company in Singapore. She gained most of her business experience there which led her to her success today. However, due to family reasons, she will return to Malaysia next year with an already established company called “Beauty Collagen Soup”.

She also mentioned that doing business will encounter a lot of ups and downs. Even if the employer is facing financial loss, they are still required to pay their employees’ wages. Therefore, being a “boss” may sound good but it is not that easy as you will always be trapped under anxiety like a volcano ready to burst.

Then, she shared some tips and some things we have to be aware of. For example, doing market research, planning the venture fund needed by the company and finding a good working partner. In addition, we have to make short-term and long-term plans for entering the market as well as ensuring good cash flow.

The most interesting part of the Talk is when Jazz came up with some questions and asked us to write our answers on paper. From these questions, she mentioned that we must make sure of our targets and not start a company for fun or without any specific reason. Besides, both courage and experience are very important. We may not be earning a lot of money at first, but if we are persistent and ready to adjust our business model according to the market trend, we will succeed soon.

She also shared that she has a habit of listing the best and worst outcomes of a decision so that she is prepared for every result. It also helped her to remember her original intention of doing something.

During the Q & A session, she mentioned that although she does not specialise in soup and has no experience with it, she has strong willpower that if she wanted to, she can. She did quite a lot of research on soup and asked others around to gather more information and experience.

The Talk ended well after taking a group photo. Hope all participants benefited from this informative and wonderful talk.
