An instrumental concert comprising a single instrument genre is a rarely seen performance, much owing to the perceived monotony implied by its instrument selection – or lack thereof. Yet the Kuen Cheng Guitar Club broke the preconceived notions of such a concert’s feasibility. Serenading us with every strum of the strings, their concert on the night of 29th July 2023 will go down as one of the most unique performances that has ever graced Kuen Cheng High School.

We usually visualize guitars as the standard string instrument-a fretted wooden body of oblong shape, hollowed with a hole through its centre. In reality, guitars are rather varied. The guitar club took the night’s opportunity to introduce these variants with an informative presentation at 8 pm sharp, highlighting the acoustic, electric and bass guitars to be featured in the performance. Speeches from the honored guests soon followed, ending with a vibrant ribbon-cutting ceremony to begin the concert.

Moving on we’re finally heading into the main theme of the concert, which is based on an action role-playing game named “Genshin Impact”. There were several Medleys played during the concert including :

These streams of songs have truly shown the melodic beauty a guitar can hold. Ms Yong King Lih, the coach with a firm and persistent personality, expressed her gratitude for all the members who have worked hard for the success of this concert, her family and the school. The last song performed by the Guitar Club was a live band based on the process of learning how to play a guitar, which was an extraordinary experience. Before the concert was about to end, a commemorative photo was taken with all the members and organizers of this event to cherish this memory.
