Parents getting involved in the classroom might be a worrying experience for students and teachers alike, but in the class Jr2Z(2), it’s not the case.

On the 21st of August the school held Teacher-Parent Interaction Day, where parents can talk with teachers to know more about their children’s school performance. During the event, students were required to sit by their parent’s side.

As seen above, the first four activities were held from 8.00 to 9.10 am on that day, while the chit-chat session was held over several days. Once all 47 students and their parents had joined the meeting, the event started. Form Teacher Ms. Theng Kai Joe and the emcees Leaw Jia Lin and Ngeoh Jen Haw introduced themselves.

Firstly, the emcees talked about the Class Committee, including the class monitor, treasurer, subject assistants, and classroom helpers. They also displayed the class duty roster and the food pick-up system, which involved all students.

Afterwards, Ms. Theng talked about the class’s academic results. She explained how to check grades and showed the grade average for each subject, ranging from 78 to 97.

Next was the Quizizz session. The quiz had one question from each subject and two questions on general knowledge, totalling ten questions. This time, however, it wasn’t the students who took the quiz, but the parents. This served as a challenge for the parents, who hadn’t used their knowledge from school for quite some time before this.

Then came the “Take Me To Your Heart” activity. A week before this event, Ms. Theng had set up two Google Forms for both parents and students. The form asked questions about stress and inner feelings, while this activity was meant to present the answers.

Some of the questions and answers. The middle photo says “Family is the sturdiest shield”,
while the rightmost photo says “Please take me seriously”.

Besides that, the emcees showed off some of the class creations, including the class flag, class song, and class photo. The parents also received some testimonies from the students in charge.

Last were the parent-teacher conversations, which were held in private. The conversations were pre scheduled and took place over several days.

Overall, this was a unique take on the classic event that is Parent-Teacher day. As a student of Jr2Z(2), I hope that more activities like this can be organised in the future.
