How should teenagers decide their own future career? I would think most of them do not even have a clue about it. Therefore, on the Learning Activity Day of 15 February 2020, Kuen Cheng’s Counselling Department had organised a talk for the Junior 3 students with knowledge that one must acquire. Speaker of the day is Ms Tan Poh Ling, a registered and licensed counsellor from Penang. Today is about planning of a future career. The talk began at 7.30 a.m.
Our school Head of Counselling, Mr. Tan Yong Chin extended a warm welcome to Ms Tan and presented her with a fruit basket as a token of appreciation before the talk begins. To start with, Ms Tan asked the opinion of the students about what a career planning is, why there is need to do so and what to expect once a future plan has been fixed. We look forward to receiving the answers with much anticipation. Ms Tan started by introducing her personal career plan as example. She made a summary and reminded that each of us needs to do the planning carefully. She further stressed that good planning will eventually help us to reach our goal. However, Ms Tan would like to remind that although career planning is necessary, it is not just about a plan. Most important, we must be ready with the idea and awareness of making a career plan. According to Ms Tan, there are three things that will be affecting in the planning, namely personal, job information and the environment. She went on to quote a live example that had happened to an unsatisfied engineering graduate who ended up working with a personnel department of a company. She mentioned the importance of following the interest and passion of oneself in order to succeed.
