It certainly was a day filled with creativity and innovation on 18 May 2019. It was a day that Senior One Art and Commerce Stream had to take part in a competition called ‘players of exotic challenge’, in which students were required to promote different types of products for sale. The result of the competition would account for ten marks in the bookkeeping subject and the activity was held in their respective classrooms.
Students were told to split themselves into seven groups and they had to draw lots from number one to seven to decide who act first, from the papers that had been provided by the teacher. At first, most students were not feeling excited about the number order. But, once the teacher started to announce the secret behind the numbers, all the students were shocked and started to move with enthusiasm. It was not an ordinary competition for promoting goods only. Students had to promote weird products such as dogbrella, walking tissue paper, hotdog cap and many more.
The teacher started to brief about rules and regulations of the competition whereby students had to make a poster and design slogan for the product in order to attract people to buy their products. Contestants had also been required to present their ideas through acting, singing and rapping so that buyers would know the function of the product and be impressed by it. Pricing and the range of customers were also required to be listed out. Students had been given 50 minutes to prepare their presentation and a 5-minute to do the show. Scores will be given through voting, and the slogan, unity, designing, creativity and presentation formed the total marks.
As soon as the teacher finished doing the briefing, students immediately headed to their own groups and began on brainstorming how to promote their product in the best way. Students started to allocate the tasks; there were people being in charge of the designing of poster and some were in charge of the presentation. Soon, 50 minutes passed quickly and finally it was time for students to present their product.
Although time for preparation had been limited, the teacher found it amazing on how well the students had presented. Students used comedy, jokes and had even covered songs to promote their products. There was full of laughter, interesting response and active participation from the students throughout the presentation. It was no longer a competition in the students’ eyes but a time to show their own funny, real and creative sides being away from their studies routine. Everyone was enjoying the whole presentation and the teacher had had different impression towards the students through this activity.
This competition ended with voting for the best group among the students. Some classes voted for the best while some classes voted for each other as everyone deserved to be the champion for being working so hard. There were tears of joy, touching moments and fun from this competition. Awards that had been given were only some snacks, but were shared happily among all students. From the event, students learnt how to work and unite as a team as well as discover interesting ways to promoting creative products for our daily life.
