On the 18th of May, 2019. It was quite a sight to behold, in the classrooms were science stream students wielding brushes and pastel paints, unleashing their creativity on pieces of cotton material.
In conjunction with the upcoming Science Week, the school arranged an activity for the science stream students on the second part of Saturday. A project named “Atomic Apron” was done in groups, each had been assigned a specific element from the periodic table as inspiration to design an apron. On it must include the said element’s details such as its electron and nucleon number and such.
As the activity went on, all could see that the students were diligent and determined, some discussed on designs while others were scribbling with colored markers, putting all their researched information down on the white fabric. Just by looking at them working on the designs, one could clearly see that they were really putting great effort into it (apparently, 10 marks for this project to be counted toward the exam would be the determining factor).
Anyway, after two hours of waving their pens and paintbrushes, the students looked upon their beautiful work of arts with a sense of pride and content. Exhibiting their colorful fruits of labor, they lined up for a picture taken by their respective teachers. The smiles beaming on their faces showed sincerely their joy and satisfaction.
With such joyous display of their achievements, one could not deny that this activity was a huge success. Not only had it achieved its main goal, but it had also made students realize that chemistry, though sounding dull, is actually a fascinating and interesting subject!
