On March 30, 2024, Kuen Cheng High School collaborated with Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT), a university specialising in technology and engineering, to conduct a series of workshops aimed at introducing fields of technology to students. Key among the workshops offered was the SolidWorks Skills Development workshop, which provided participating students with a guided tour of the campus and opportunities to develop software utilization skills
SolidWorks, a brand under Dassault Systèmes, specializes in developing and marketing software for solid modeling computer-aided design, computer-aided engineering, 3D CAD design and collaboration, analysis, and product data management. Offering students the opportunity to familiarize themselves with its operations can significantly assist them in paving their ways to future careers.
The workshop began with a warm welcome from the TAR UMT team. After a quick group photo, the students were brought to the computer lab and were given an in-depth overview of the university’s strengths, accomplishments, and other relevant information.

Led by Mr. Chew Khai Min and Ts. Choy Hau Yan, the workshop delved into the process of using the SolidWorks Software Platform. Both lecturers gave succinct explanations for the complex application so that students could easily understand the basic concept of SolidWorks. They also guided the participants through the software’s interface and provided them with opportunities to create simple models with their aid. Throughout the session, the students were actively participating in the activities and sharing ideas with their friends, creating a laid-back atmosphere.
