After the fierce competition that eliminated most of the participating teams in the 2024 Chinese Literature Tournament hosted by the Chinese Department, eight of the still-standing teams were met with their ultimate challenge to acquiring victory. The finals of the Chinese Literature Tournament was held on 16th of March (Saturday) in the auditorium of Kuen Cheng High School from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
The single-elimination tournament had a total of three rounds which led to one ultimate champion after other teams with lower scores were eliminated. On the basis of points accumulation, three teams with highest accumulated points from three rounds would be hailed as top-three winners.
The first round was “Literary Detectives”, where teams had to find the mistakes in the pictures that depicted certain literary plots but contained hidden mistakes. Out of the top eight teams, five teams with the highest points advanced to the next round.
Points were shown after each round
For the second round “Literary Fashion Show”, videos of students cosplaying as story characters were played and teams answered questions based on the characters portrayed. It was an intense moment before the teams’ respective points were announced, and the audience erupted into applause when the top three teams were announced.
During the calculation of points, Ms. Theng Kai Joe of the Chinese Language Department hosted interactive sessions with the audience. Students enthusiastically participated in spotting the mistakes in the pictures, showcasing their knowledge and expertise in Chinese Literature.
The most anticipated final round: Murder Mystery was finally on show! Fueled with their determination to win the tournament, the top three teams stepped into the shoes of detectives and scrutinised the suspenseful videos which are adaptations of literary works. After close analysis of details and foreshadowing, intense discussions were held among themselves before they came to a conclusion. With some teams successfully decrypting clues and some teams coming close to it, the final round was concluded.
