The spirits of youths shall soar unbounded. On the 9ᵗʰ of December 2023, the 67ᵗʰ Kuen Cheng High School Graduation Ceremony Class of 2023 came by as the graduates strode into the school hall of Lee Shin Cheng with high-held heads and brimming smiles. The iconic orchid-shaped red badge along with a decorative orchid brooch signifies the finale of their high school life.

Before the graduation ceremony started officially at 9 am sharp, the parents and graduates began sitting in their respective seats and watched the video collages capturing the graduates’ high school lives intently.
Hearty speeches delivered by the Honourable Members of the Board of Governors and our highly respected Principal, Madam Chua Lee Lee, were swiftly followed by the award giving sessions, where the Academic Excellence Award, Academic Improvement Award and several achievements and services awards were presented to the graduates to recognize their immaculate performance and contributions to the school. Other than that, the Kuen Cheng Honour Award, Outstanding Academic Performance and Outstanding Sports Performance were issued to exceptional students who had brilliant achievements in high-level competitions of various fields.

Up next, two representative students presented a mock cheque of the donation cumulatively raised by the Class of 2023, a staggering sum of RM 54,044. A series of ceremonies such as graduation certificates and certificates for class committee graduates went on before the President of the Graduation Committee, Heah Ernn delivered a moving speech on behalf of all the graduates. Her speech was a fond recollection of all the moments experienced throughout the times in Kuen Cheng.

After that, Head Prefect Chan Yong Tong led the “Gratitude Ceremony” where graduates expressed their appreciation towards the teachers and parents that shaped their character. The parents then read the handwritten letters from the graduates.
A sentimental air filled the hall as the graduates sang their hearts out to the ‘Farewell song’. Hands holding each other tightly and swaying to the mellow tune with heartfelt lyrics playing in the background, the blend of young singing voices echoed with great poignance, leaving trails of wistful tears behind.
Core memories before the parting of ways
The culmination of the graduation ceremony finally arrives as all the graduates huddled around the stage to perform their anthem of youth: “At Eighteen” (那年十八）The graduates’ ingenuity and enthusiasm were unleashed, as they composed and created this unique and original piece of work on their own. It was the epitome of youth, as lively beats and intoxicating instrumental blasted the hall, led by the lead singers and musicians.

With the clicking of the final group photo, the ceremony drew to its successful closing. All the moments of joys and sorrows throughout the graduates’ high school life will always put a smile on their faces, even as years go by. Wishing the Class of 2023 a bright and happy future ahead!
